WORKPLACE TRAINING PARTNERS

Practical training in a realistic environment is the best way for students to learn workplace skills. Workplaces are the essential link between understanding and applying theory to real world situations.

Workplace Training Partners are animal care and equine workplaces that provide the supportive, professional environments ACAC students need to complete their practical placements.

By joining our network, you’re not only giving students the chance to learn in a real-world setting — you’re also helping shape their future careers and strengthening the industry as a whole.

Becoming a Workplace Training Partner is free, simple, and demonstrates your commitment to education and best practice standards. Once approved, your registration lasts for five years.

Why become a Workplace Training Partner?

Workplaces choose to become Workplace Training Partners for many different reasons — and each team has its own motivations. Some of the benefits you might enjoy include:

  • An extra set of hands –students can assist with day-to-day tasks, supporting your team.
  • Fresh knowledge and ideas – students bring what they’re learning straight into your workplace, helping keep your team connected to the latest approaches.
  • Professional development – mentoring students is rewarding and builds the teaching, coaching, and leadership skills of your team.
  • Reduced recruitment costs – your placement student could become your next valued team member. You’ll already know they’re a good fit for your workplace.
  • Roster flexibility – with thoughtful scheduling (and within placement rules), students can provide support during busy times and help smooth your workflow.

There are, of course, conditions around what students can and cannot do. For example, Animal Care Services students cannot work with horses, as equines are not covered in their course.

The rewards of teaching the next generation often go well beyond the practical benefits. Many mentors and workplaces find a real sense of pride and purpose in knowing they’ve had a lasting impact on both their team and the wider industry.

Why does ACAC use Registered Training Clinics?

Practical experience is essential for every animal care and equine student. While ACAC provides opportunities for students to practise skills through at-home activities and occasional simulation workshops, these experiences can only take them so far.

To truly prepare graduates for the realities of working in animal care, students must also learn in real workplaces. Hands-on experience builds on their classroom knowledge, helping them retain what they’ve learned, apply it in a variety of situations, and develop the critical thinking, problem-solving, professionalism, and communication skills that define outstanding animal care and equine professionals.

REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE

We believe it’s essential for students to gain genuine workplace experience as part of their course. Our goal is to graduate animal care and equine professionals who not only have strong skills and knowledge, but who also bring real value to your team.

By working alongside your staff, students develop professionalism, apply best-practice standards, and strengthen their critical thinking — all of which lead to excellent animal care and strong workplace outcomes.

REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE

We think it’s important that students gain real world experience as part of their course. We want graduates with great skills, amazing knowledge, but even more importantly, ones that add value to your team through professionalism, best practice standards and critical thinking leading to outstanding patient care.

How do we become a WORKPLACE TRAINING PARTNER?

Getting started is simple. To become a Workplace Training Partner, your workplace just needs to complete one quick online form. Each workplace must also have at least one registered Workplace Mentor, who will fill out a separate mentor registration form.

Your benefits begin as soon as your registration is approved and remain valid for five years. To continue receiving benefits, we ask that your workplace hosts at least one student each year.

From time to time, we may contact you if a student is unable to secure their own placement. Accepting them is entirely your choice. There’s no obligation, and we always recommend treating the process as you would when hiring an employee — interview them first to ensure they’re the right fit for your team.
